Housed in a renovated gymnasium, Sumnerites Museum and Community Center lies on the site of the first free school south of the Mason Dixon Line. The Sumner School served Parkersburg's black community in the 1800s, and the museum pays tribute accordingly, with artifacts and exhibits chronicling the area's rich African-American history. It lies in the heart of town, near Odd Fellows Cemetery.
