A 20-minute sternwheeler boat ride brings the wayward traveler to Blennerhassett Island, where horse-drawn wagon rides, nature walks, and tours of a glorious, 7,000-square-foot historic mansion await. Before departing for the island, a museum educates visitors about its significance: It was the home of 18th-century aristocrat Harman Blennerhassett, whose notorious dealings with the suspicious Aaron Burr landed him a prison sentence. The island lies in the middle of the Ohio River, two miles west of Parkersburg.
